REUNION RECEPTION HELD FOR MIF SCHOLARS
“Where are they now?” is a common question asked of people. This is exactly what many of us want to know about our twenty-four recipients of the Annelle Jerome Scholarship that was established in 1998. It was a good reason to hold recently a reunion reception at Stewartfield Home in Spring Hill College campus honoring the scholars and their parents. Several recipients are pursuing a Ph.D. while others are still in college in their undergraduate studies. Some are now seniors and ready to pursue their masters or enroll in another college field of preference. A few are already in the work force doing what they studied for. In this year’s batch, four are starting their freshman year. It was interesting to see how these young adults have grown up from the small children who worked hard in the cultural exhibits or food booths or danced or joined in the community-oriented activities of the festival. As MIF president Joe Davis said, “Mobile International Festival is glad to be part of your education. Hopefully, many of you will return to help run the festival. As many of us are getting older, we look at you as our future!” There was a lot of camaraderie between the scholars, parents and MIF people. The scholars talked about growing up in the festival and their future educational plans. It was a relaxing evening for everyone. The reunion is a fitting tribute to Dr. Annelle Jerome, the founder, and to honor the 25th anniversary celebration of Mobile International Festival. It was organized and coordinated by Kaoru Oca, a new member from Japan. Catering was done by Rose Peavy of the Philippines. She even baked a special cake for the scholars. MIF wishes all the past and present scholars good luck
in their future!
