MOBILE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
SHOWCASES THE WORLD IN A DAY
Does
the high price of traveling stop you from traveling around the world?
You don’t have to go far to see the world. Mobile International
Festival lets you visit the “Landmarks Around the World”
from nations around the world in a day on Saturday, November 17, 2007
at the Mobile Civic Center from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. See for yourself
the excitement of world cultures presented by 70 nations!
Taste and
sample the delicious fusion of foods, drinks and desserts from this year’s
food booths that include Japan, Brazil, Trinidad & Tobago, Philippines,
Taiwan, Greece, India, Honduras, Italy, Mexico, China, Laos, Lebanon,
France, Russia, Thailand, Iran, Vietnam, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Malaysia,
Ghana, Panama, Bolivia, Ukraine, and Cuba. Pre-packed envelopes of $5.00
and $10.00 worth of food tokens are sold in Tokens Booths to make it convenient
for everyone.
Be
entertained by artists from different countries and surround yourself
by musical sounds ranging from percussions to the exotic:
• Matsuriza
Traditional Japanese Taiko Drummers that perform weekly in Epcot Center
• Noklae Band from Chiang Mai, Thailand, composed of children who
are singers and musicians dedicated to preserving the Hmong culture from
the highlands of Thailand
• Kenya Safari Acrobats who were specially schooled in Kenya for
acrobatics
• Puppet Arts Theatre, an Emmy award winning group from Jackson,
Mississippi
• Tuna de Derecho are Monterrey, Mexico’s serenading troubadours
who continue the tradition of Medieval-type singing
• Tim Morris who plays Australia’s indigenous didgeridoo
• Amir and his Mahour Ensemble playing the ancient Persian musical
instruments like santour
• Creek Indian Flying Eagles perform their Friendship Dance
• Vidhya Bhat performing Indian classical dances
• Mithril, Mobile’s premiere Celtic band
• RamCorps, a corps-style team of 21 persons excelling in precision,
high-impact brass and percussion from the University of Mobile
• Zuri Middle Eastern Dancers are belly dancers
• Master Shawn Liu and his Chinese martial arts students
• Plus dancers and musicians from Trinidad & Tobago, Greece,
Philippines, Mexico, Australia, Scotland and India.
Imagine
yourself in a country as you visit the cultural exhibits where you see
their landmarks and learn about their distinct cultures and hospitality.
Shop to your heart’s content with souvenirs like jewelry, origami,
scarves, Easter eggs, dolls, and many more. Don’t forget to have
your passport stamped. Visit the Art Gallery to see paintings, photographs
and sculptures from our local artists and guest artist from the Philippines
showing his collection of Tribal Women. Take your children to the children’s
activity center where they can decorate their own Carnavale masks in the
style of Venice’s Mardi Gras. Don’t forget the face painting
and storytelling room for folk tales from faraway places.
At
the Opening Ceremony, RamCorps will accompany the poignant Parade of Flags.
Listen to the Mobile International Festival Children’s Chorus sing.
