Cabbage Rolls - Germany
1 large cabbage, about
3 pounds
2 Tbsp. ketchup
1-1/2 pound ground beef
2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup minced onions
1/2 tsp. pepper
2 eggs
3 Tbsp. margarine
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
2-1/2 cups water
Immerse cabbage in a pan of very hot water, let soak for 30 minutes.
Remove from water and gently separate leaves. There should be
18 leaves, divide into 6 portions, 3 leaves to a roll. Combine
ground beef with following 6 ingredients, mix well and divide
into 6 portions. Place portions on prepared leaves, roll each
tightly, making sure meat is well covered. Tie together with string.
In large skillet heat margarine, add cabbage rolls and fry until
almost dark brown. Add 2-1/2 cups water, cover and simmer 45 minutes.
Add salt and pepper to taste. Make gravy by combining 2 tablespoons
cornstarch with 3 tablespoons water, stir into boiling liquid,
simmer 5 minutes. Makes 4-6 servings.
Green
Beans in Coconut Milk - Singapore
2 cups green beans or
cracked wheat
Sugar to tase (white or brown)
Palm
1/4 packet coconut cream
Rinse green beans under running water. Put cleaned beans in a
saucepan. Add 4 cups water and boil until beans are soft. Add
sugar and coconut milk. Adjust the amount of liquid to taste.
Boil up and serve hot. Serves 4 to 6.
