LIU INSTITUTE CELEBRATES CHINESE NEW YEAR

Chinese New Year is celebrated around the world. In Mobile, Chinese New Year was celebrated at the Liu Institute on February 7th. According to the Chinese calendar, this is the Year of the Wood Rat. The special guest this year was Monk Shi De Cheng from the Shaolin Temple in China. He participated in some martial arts demonstrations with the students at Liu Institute. Other festivities included a traditional Lion Dance, authentic Chinese food and an auction to benefit the American team that was sent to compete in the Welcome Olympic Cub tournament in Hong Kong in March.

The American team recently returned bringing home with them 15 medals they won in the tournament for various categories. They competed with teams from different countries. After the tournament in Hong Kong, they visited other sites in China including the Shaolin temple, Shanghai and Beijing.

Master Shawn Liu has participated in Mobile International Festival proudly representing China for over 15 years. He recognizes the important role the festival has in the community. He and his students are always willing participants through demonstrations of Chinese martial arts in the many community activities the festival gets invited to.
