A VISIT FROM KATOWICE, POLAND

Mobile recently had visitors from Katowice, Poland, our sister-city. The official delegation was led by Katowice Mayor Piotr Uszok, Chairman of their City Council Jerzy Forajter, Head of Foreign Cooperation Unit of Foreign Affairs Department Adam Leski, and Manager of Investor Assistance Center Mateusz Skowronski.

Upon arrival at the Mobile Municipal Airport, the delegation was met with a warm welcome from five Azalea Trail Maids, City Council members Mrs. Connie Hudson and Fred Richardson, Mrs. Ann Rambeau, Miss Angela Gibbons and Mobile International Festival representatives, Kaz Zaremba, Jim Siewert and Estela Dorn.

Meetings during their short visit from February 18-22 were set up by Ann Rambeau, Manager of the City of Mobile Neighborhood & Community Services. This included the presentation of the key to the city during the City Council Meeting. Other meetings were an overview of the revitalization of downtown Mobile from Downtown Mobile Alliance and the economic development from the Chamber of Commerce.

They also toured downtown Mobile, USS Battleship, Mobile Convention Center and Mobile Civic Center.

The Katowice officials were very pleased with their visit to Mobile. This visit is an example of a sister-city relationship. And it is timely for the visit to occur during the 25th anniversary of Mobile International Festival.
