After all the hard work by members to make the 26th annual Mobile International Festival a success, everyone was ready to greet the holiday season with a Christmas party cum final general potluck membership on December 7th. And, boy, how they did! This was the best and most attended party. The Stewartfield Home in Spring Hill College campus was full of smiling faces. There was a limitless amount of food that members brought with them to share with everyone. Desserts were served on a separate table. A fountain of punch attracted the kids. Then there was Starbucks coffee compliments from the store on Spring Hill Avenue near I-65. Surprisingly, the food and drinks seemed to have multiplied as the evening progressed!

Entertainment was supplied by MIF Children’s Chorus and accordionist Julie Council and her six-year old grandson, Christopher Conger, who played the violin. Many members did not have a chance to see all of them perform because depending on where you were at the festival, it is really impossible to see all the performances. The audience was in rapt attention listening to the music coming from them! Suddenly, it was time for Santa to pay a visit to the children. The excitement was in the air as the children realized who the important visitor was. It was a sight to see them sitting on Santa’s laps or receiving a book from Santa’s helper. After the children, then it was the adults’ time with Santa. Pictures and more pictures were taken! Laughter was everywhere! Enjoyment and happiness were shared by everyone!

A group of MIF members trekked up to Bienville Club for a holiday buffet on December 15th! Great company complimented the delicious food served. The desserts were the icing to the whole experience. And, as it is now customary, when MIF members or, should I say, MIF family get together, enjoyment is the byword!

And how do you cap this celebration? Why, of course, by joining the City Christmas and Holiday Parade on December 19th! A float for Mobile International Festival with our own MIF little ones on it is an attraction by itself. But when you see a large group of members representing different countries right behind the float, this sight is enough to reinforce MIF’s presence in the community!

What a way to celebrate the holiday season! Mobile International Festival does it with pizzazz! Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
