LEBANESE-AMERICAN CLUB OF MOBILE
KICKS OFF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR-LONG CELEBRATION

The recent annual Installation Banquet ushering the 2008 officers, directors and trustees of the Lebanese-American Club of Mobile kicked off the official celebration of the 25th year of Mobile International Festival. The Lebanese-American Club of Mobile was established in 1952 with its first installation held at the Battle House Hotel. This year’s banquet was held at the Café Royal at Van Antwerp Building on Dauphin Street on January 13, 2008. Mr. Bashir Tawk, the Acting Consul General of Lebanon, from Detroit, Michigan, was their special guest speaker.

It is just fitting that this banquet started MIF’s 25th year because the late Robert Belmany and Michael Kahalley were charter members of Mobile International Festival. Robert Belmany was president of the festival for several years. Michael Kahalley headed several major committees. The Lebanese-American Club of Mobile was among the first cultural organizations to join the festival and has continued to do so. Joe Davis, the president of Mobile International Festival, is the treasurer of the Lebanese-American Club. Yvonne and Wadie Gabriel heads the International Festival Committee dedicated to organizing their yearly participation.

At the banquet, Dr. Bassam A. Bassam, the incoming president, honored and recognized Mobile International Festival for their role in the community and the position it holds in all the cultural groups in Mobile.

Mobile International Festival is a force within the community. Through the year-long celebration, other cultural groups will be celebrating their own events. These groups are proud to call Mobile International Festival their own organization.
